It's not often that you find a plethora of feline and canine studies in one place. But one nonprofit has done just that.

The Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) published its species reports, including one for canines and felines, in October. The reports share MAF-funded studies currently published or with publication pending, as well as a list of future projects.

The 2016 Canine Report highlights studies related to the genetic mutations for diseases in high-risk breeds, human health advances to aid dogs with cancer, and new diagnostics and disease monitoring strategies, including:  

• The genetic basis for urinary stones, published in the Journal of Internal Veterinary Medicine on Jan. 10
• Genetic markers for familial subvalvular aortic stenosis in Newfoundlands, e-published by theNational Institutes of Health (NIH) on June 5, 2014
• Effective treatments for canine lymphoma, published Jan. 16 in PubFacts

The 2016 Feline Report highlights studies related to new approaches to treating feline cancers, development treatment strategies for emerging diseases, and ensuring drug safety to improve cats’ lives. All the studies in this report are “publication pending.”
